CPC and YCL

The Communist Party of Canada is Canada’s party of socialism. It was founded in 1921 and has experiences uneven growth over its 90+ year history. At times it has been strong, commanding the support of roughly half of Northern Ontarians with roads in the region named after then-leader Tim Buck.

The Communist Party has been a consistently Marxist-Leninist political party since its outlook. Although the party has experienced conflict over the years, notably surrounding the Sino-Soviet split and the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, it has always been present on the Canadian political stage.

The Communist Party of Canada is the vanguard of Canadian workers, students, and oppressed peoples.

The Young Communist League of Canada is the mass organization for revolutionary youth in Canada. It is where young people and students get together to learn about socialism, political struggle and social change. The YCL organizes all youth who share its revolutionary aspirations – one does not need to be a communist to join.

The YCL, like the CPC, is built and operates on Marxist-Leninist ideas and principles. The YCL is politically allied to the CPC, although it is organizationally and functionally independent. The YCL’s relationship to the CPC ensures a base of future cadre in the CPC, but also extends the reach of the CPC to all revolutionary Canadian, Quebecois and First Nations youth.

The YCL was founded in 1923, but later dissolved following the imperialist counter-revolutionary victories in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The YCL was re-established in 2007 and has experienced steady and considerable growth since.

Both the CPC and the YCL maintain a strong presence in southern Ontario, notably in Guelph, Hamilton, Toronto and Niagara Region. Those interested in joining can directly contact the central committees of either the CPC or the YCL to learn about how they can get involved in the struggle for a socialist Canada founded on equality, peace, liberation, social justice and human rights.

Workers, students, and all oppressed peoples, unite!
